Summer Ministry Games, July the 1st thru the 3rd
This year's event included several teams from Southern California: Pasadena and San Diego, a team from Arizona and one from Northern California: San Jose. Although relatively small, it proved to be the most varied. From different parts of the Pacific Ocean, they came: Chuukese, Palauans, Pohnpeians, Yapese, Samoans, and Kosraeans. There were also several Asians and Americans sprinkled here and there among the crowds. There were individuals that came without a team just to enjoy the games and the fellowship among fellow islanders. Although fewer teams showed up in comparison to previous events, the outcome was overwhelming and beyond expectations. Some made the assumption that the reduction was due to the inflating cost of fuel these days. But could it be the work of the Almighty? Time management for the games was superb, and in turn enabled more time on ministry activities and deeper fellowships. Both evening services were inspirational and live-changing. The surprise came from the San Jose youth in taking the initiative and presenting their God-given musical talents to the congregation. The message, delivered by Sato Suka, was challenging and educational. The theme for the weekend was "Life 4 Life" taken from I John 3:16. It proved to be the appropriate message for the gathered teams. Rap lyricist Matthew Manai treated us with a few rhythmic rhymings, alongside the ever singing sensation Myra Soulik with the rest of the San Jose youth.
As for the games, this year belonged to the hosting teams. First place, basketball, went to the San Diego team 2. They cruised their way to the championship, undefeated. J-One Robert was the championship MVP with a tally of 21 points, all of which came from beyond the arc. Second place was given to San Diego 1: the G-Unit team, with a 3-2 record. The underdogs of the event, a team of "old school" guys took third place. A team that was assembled the very first day of the event proved more than what the other teams could handle. As for the volleyball tourney, G-Kumi from San Diego dominated the court, and as expected, they took first place. Arizona came in second after an intense championship game. And third place goes to the young team of Pasadena. Already plans are underway for next year. For that time we are hoping and praying a continuation of God's work among the young people. And so, the MOMUSA organization would like to give thanks to all the participating teams. Special thanks to Mr. Roby and Mr. Eter for their efforts in officiating the games, as well as everybody that helped out. See ya next year! ...event photos |
