They meant so much to many of us
Sunday, March 3, 2002 at approximately 3:30pm, the funeral service for the late
Mrs. Hanlin took place in Claremont, California.
The service setting was very island style. Nearly 50 MOMUSA
family members attended the service to pay condolences to the
once pioneer missionary to the islands. The MOMUSA Family sang
a Chuukese number while the family of the late Mrs. Hanlin sang
a harmonious Marshallese song. We were very uplifted and touched
by their presentation. All throughout the service, friends and
family members presented stories of how much the Hanlin Family
meant to Micronesian people.
For many years
following World War II, both Mr. and Mrs. Hanlin did missionary
work in Micronesia building and assisting local churches. In fact,
one of their accomplishments involved the translation of the English
Bible to Chuukese.
The husband,
Dr. Hanlin passed away about two years ago. Alice, one of their
daughters married Rev. Helden Buck. Both have spent many years
in the Marshall Islands and Kosrae. Following the footsteps of
her parents, Alice is finishing up a Kosraean translation of the
English Bible and it is expected to be completed sometime this
summer.
This entire family,
from parents to daughters, has had a big influence in the lives
of many Micronesian people. Because many of us are products of
the missionary work they did on the islands, we are very sadden
by the earthly passing away of these two very important and dear
people.
